What is NIDIMS?

The Nuclear Infrastructure Development Information Management System (NIDIMS) is part of the integrated support that the IAEA provides to Member States considering, embarking on or expanding nuclear power programmes. This support is based on the Milestones Approach or Milestones in the Development of a National Infrastructure for Nuclear Power , an IAEA publication which is widely used around the world and is complemented by various materials and tools. NIDIMS is a web-based interactive platform developed by the IAEA to support Member States in using these materials and tools and applying the IAEA Milestones Approach

What IAEA publications and tools are integrated in NIDIMS?

• The publication Milestones in the Development of a National Infrastructure for Nuclear Power (IAEA Nuclear Energy Series No. NG-G-3.1 (Rev. 2)), which is widely used around the world and is complemented by the below documents, tools and services
• The publication Evaluation of the Status of National Nuclear Infrastructure Development (IAEA Nuclear Energy Series No. NG-T-3.2 (Rev. 2)), a guidance for Member States on how to assess the progress of their infrastructure development for nuclear power, based on the Milestones Approach
• The Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) , an IAEA peer review service to assist Member States in evaluating the status of their national nuclear infrastructure on the basis of the Milestones Approach and the associated 19 infrastructure issues
• The Integrated Work Plan (IWP) , a strategic planning framework jointly developed by the IAEA and the Member State that defines the IAEA’s integrated activities to support the country’s nuclear power infrastructure development
• The Country Nuclear Infrastructure Profile (CNIP) , a database for presenting and monitoring the status of a nuclear newcomer country’s infrastructure development, following a self-evaluation or an INIR mission
• The Nuclear Infrastructure Competency Framework (CF) , a publicly available database with the purpose of assisting Member States in planning the activities required throughout all phases of the introduction of a new nuclear power programme, as well as developing the competencies and capabilities required to implement these activities

What can Member States use NIDIMS for?

• To collect, update and view data regarding their nuclear power infrastructure development actions
• To elaborate NPP roadmaps, action plans and self-evaluations
• To monitor progress in nuclear infrastructure issues and related activities
• To support preparations for INIR missions and IWP meetings
• To support programme and project management, information gathering and sharing among the national team and with the IAEA

What are the advantages of using NIDIMS?

• Gaining easy access to and explanations of IAEA publications and tools related to nuclear power infrastructure development through tailored reading functionalities
• Benefitting from a user-friendly platform to collect, update and view data on nuclear power infrastructure development through customizable forms, charts and exportable reports
• Allowing national team members to work jointly on a project (such as a self-evaluation of the infrastructure development status) through task assignment functionalities and workflows
• Facilitating the regular exchange of information with relevant technical officers at the IAEA through sharing functionalities

What modules are available in NIDIMS?

NIDIMS will grant access to the following modules and supporting functionalities:

• National Action Plan for Nuclear Infrastructure Development. This module enables the Member State to create, complete and regularly update a national action plan for nuclear infrastructure development and to generate a Roadmap for the Nuclear Power Programme.
• Self-Evaluation of the Status of National Nuclear Infrastructure Development. This module enables the Member State to create and complete self-evaluations and to generate the Country Nuclear Infrastructure Profile (CNIP).
• Integrated Workplan (IWP). This module enables the IAEA to exchange information with the Member State on the creation, completion and update of an IWP for IAEA integrated support.
• Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR). This module enables the Member State to have access to information related to conducted INIR missions.

Is NIDIMS accessible to all IAEA Member States?

NIDIMS resources are available to all IAEA Member States. NIDIMS modules are available for Member States considering, embarking on, or expanding nuclear power programme, upon designation of a NIDIMS National Coordinator.

Who can have access to NIDIMS in Member States?

Access to the platform is granted only to the NIDIMS National Coordinator and other registered users formally nominated by Member States considering, embarking on or expanding nuclear power programmes. Users must have a NUCLEUS account. For further information, contact NIDIMS@iaea.org

Who has access to Member States information in NIDIMS?

NIDIMS is a password-protected, role-based system that allows national coordinators and other national users to see only their own national information according to their role and assigned tasks

Who can be designated as NIDIMS National Coordinator?

It is for the Member State to decide which Government official to designate as National Coordinator. It is however recommended that the National Coordinator be someone with a leading or coordinating role at the national level regarding the country’s nuclear power programme and infrastructure development actions.

What are the initial steps for accessing and using NIDIMS?

1. The Member State designates a NIDIMS National Coordinator through official channels
2. The NIDIMS Administrator grants access to the National Coordinator
3. Using the form provided in NIDIMS, the National Coordinator creates a Country Nuclear Power Programme record describing the Member State’s programme

Once the above steps have been completed, the National Action Plan module becomes available and Self-Evaluations linked to the Country Nuclear Power Programme may be created. At any time, the National Coordinator may request access for National Team Members.
